Abstract

The study has made it possible to build an artisanal prototype (DPV) to desalinate seawater or purify polluted water using solar energy to produce fresh water in rural areas far from the drinking water network. An advantage of the equipment lies in using renewable energy, it can also be scaled to larger dimensions to obtain large amounts of fresh water; Likewise, the prototype, when operating with solar energy, does not produce greenhouse gases, mitigating climate change.

The solar prototype was selected based on criteria such as: low initial and maintenance costs, easy operation, replicability and scalability, low energy consumption, and use of national components. With a dome the prototype in 8 hours produces a volume of 6.5 liters desalinated water, at atmospheric pressure; Likewise, with two domes in similar conditions, it produces 7.5 liters of desalinated water. This amount of desalinated water increases to 20 liters when the prototype operates in a vacuum between 0.7 to 0.8 atmospheres.

It is recommended to continue with the technical characterization of the prototype, carrying out more runs in different places and weather seasons, and adding automatic control systems, to bring the prototype to the category of industrial equipment, controlled with artificial intelligence (AI).
